Sad sign of the times

On my way back from Boston, the bus I was taking had a food stop in Syracuse.  My two choices for hot food were Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway.  Having tried an all-day breakfast item from Dunk’s on the way to Boston due to a long line-up at Subway and been non-plussed, I quickly made my way to the end of the queue for Subway.  There, I was greeted by a plaque that seemed to capture several things that seem to be wrong about society today.

Firstly, it was somewhat distressing to note that patrons needed a reminder not use cell phones while ordering and, secondly, that a policy needed to be in place.  It’s also somewhat frightening that such a nice sign was deemed necessary to convey this information (the production values of the sign are much better than simply a piece of paper stuck to the wall).  Lastly, when making such a nice sign, one surely would try to ensure ((Yes, it’s an alternative spelling in the US.))  that someone proofreads it, even if the work is divided with a spelling checker?

Oh, and I took perverse pleasure in the fact that I used a cellular phone to take the picture.

  1. I must confess that I am guilty of using my phone while paying for things a couple of times in my life…i’m a jerk.

I’ll try to do better jono.

  2. LOL! I’m usually a great proofreader but I had to read it twice to catch the misspellings (I think I’m tired after a busy day caring for elderly parents and babysitting grandchildren! 🙂 ). Thanks for an interesting, amusing, and thought-provoking article.
